What's the difference between an inlay and an onlay?
An inlay fits within the grooves of the tooth's chewing surface, while an onlay extends over one or more of the tooth's cusps, covering a larger area. Your dentist determines which fits your specific damage.
How do inlays and onlays differ from crowns?
Inlays and onlays preserve more of your natural tooth since they don't require reshaping the entire tooth like a crown does. They're typically used for moderate damage that doesn't need full coverage.
Can I get an inlay or onlay in one visit?
In many cases, yes, using our same-day CEREC® technology, which designs and mills your restoration in-office without the need for a temporary or a second appointment.
How long do inlays and onlays last?
With good oral hygiene, they typically last 10 to 15 years or longer, similar to crowns and fillings.

What are inlays and onlays?
Inlays and onlays are custom-made restorations that repair teeth with moderate damage or decay, offering a more conservative alternative to a full crown when a filling isn't enough.
How does it work?
After removing decay, your dentist takes a digital impression and designs a custom restoration that fits precisely within or over the tooth's grooves, then bonds it securely in place, preserving as much natural tooth as possible.
