  • Fluoride Treatment | East Madison Dental

What is Fluoride Treatment? Fluoride treatment is a fast, painless application of concentrated fluoride to your teeth that strengthens enamel and helps prevent cavities. How does it work? After your cleaning, your hygienist applies a fluoride gel, foam, or varnish directly to your teeth, which absorbs into the enamel over the next several minutes to strengthen it against acid and decay. What are the benefits ? Strengthens enamel and helps prevent cavities Can reverse very early stages of tooth decay Reduces tooth sensitivity Quick, painless, and suitable for kids and adults alike FAQS Is fluoride treatment only for kids? No. While it's especially important for children's developing teeth, adults benefit too, particularly those prone to cavities, dry mouth, or gum recession that exposes tooth roots. How often should I get a fluoride treatment? Most patients receive fluoride treatment at their regular six-month cleanings, though your dentist may recommend more frequent applications if you're at higher risk for decay. Is fluoride safe? Yes, professional fluoride treatments are safe and closely monitored for the correct dosage. We'll advise you not to eat or drink for about 30 minutes afterward to let it fully absorb. Can fluoride treatment fix a cavity that's already formed? Fluoride can strengthen weakened enamel and reverse decay in its very earliest stages, but it can't repair a cavity that has already broken through the tooth. Those need a filling or restoration. How much whiter will my teeth get? Results vary by individual, but most patients see several shades of improvement. Your dentist will discuss realistic expectations based on your current tooth color and the cause of any staining. Will whitening make my teeth sensitive? Some temporary sensitivity is common, especially with in-office whitening, but it typically resolves within a day or two. We can recommend desensitizing products if needed. How long do whitening results last? Results typically last several months to a couple of years, depending on your diet and habits. Avoiding staining foods and drinks, and touching up periodically, helps maintain your results. Is in-office or at-home whitening better? In-office whitening delivers faster, more dramatic results in a single visit, while at-home trays offer a gradual, flexible option you can use on your own schedule. We can help you decide which fits your goals. Book Now What is sleep and airway treatment? Sleep and airway treatment addresses breathing issues during sleep, including snoring and sleep apnea, often through custom oral appliances that keep your airway open. How does it work? After an evaluation, and often in coordination with a sleep physician, your dentist may design a custom oral appliance that gently repositions your jaw during sleep to keep your airway open and reduce airway obstruction. FAQS What are the benefits ? Reduces snoring and symptoms of sleep apnea Comfortable, non-invasive alternative to CPAP for many patients Improves sleep quality and daytime energy Custom-fit for your mouth and easy to travel with How do I know if I have sleep apnea? Common signs include loud snoring, gasping or choking during sleep, daytime fatigue, and morning headaches. If you notice these, we can help evaluate your symptoms and coordinate care with a sleep specialist. Is an oral appliance as effective as a CPAP machine? For mild to moderate sleep apnea, oral appliances can be highly effective and are often preferred for their comfort and portability. For more severe cases, your physician may recommend combining approaches. Will my appliance feel strange to wear? There's an adjustment period, but most patients acclimate within a couple of weeks. We custom fit your appliance for comfort and check in to make any needed adjustments. Do I need a sleep study first? Yes, a formal sleep study helps diagnose and determine the severity of sleep apnea, which guides the right treatment approach. We're happy to help coordinate this with a sleep physician. • Wisdom Teeth | East Madison Dental

Ready to Experience the EMD Difference? Book Now What is wisdom teeth removal? Wisdom teeth removal is the extraction of the third molars, often necessary when they're impacted, crowding other teeth, or at risk of causing infection or damage. How does it work? After evaluating your wisdom teeth with X-rays or 3D imaging, your dentist or oral surgeon removes them using local anesthesia or sedation, depending on their position and your comfort preferences. What are the benefits ? Prevents crowding and damage to neighboring teeth Reduces risk of infection, cysts, or pain from impacted teeth Addresses issues before they become more complicated Sedation options available for a comfortable experience FAQS Do all wisdom teeth need to be removed? Not necessarily. Some wisdom teeth erupt properly and cause no issues, in which case they can be monitored. Your dentist will evaluate their position and health to determine if removal is recommended. Is wisdom teeth removal painful? The procedure is performed under anesthesia or sedation, so you won't feel pain during it. Some swelling and soreness afterward is normal and manageable with medication and rest. How long is recovery from wisdom teeth removal? Most patients feel significantly better within a few days to a week, though complete healing of the extraction site can take a few weeks. At what age should wisdom teeth be removed? Wisdom teeth are often removed in the late teens to early twenties, when roots aren't fully formed and recovery tends to be easier, though it can be done at any age if needed. • Implant Dentistry | East Madison Dental

Implant DENTISTRY Ready to Experience the EMD Difference? Book Now What are dental implants? Dental implants are titanium posts surgically placed into the jawbone to replace missing tooth roots, providing a strong, permanent foundation for a replacement tooth, crown, bridge, or denture. How does it work? Your dentist places the implant into the jawbone, where it fuses with the bone over a few months through a process called osseointegration. Once healed, a custom crown, bridge, or denture is attached on top for a natural, functional result. What are the benefits ? Look, feel, and function like natural teeth Prevent bone loss that occurs after tooth loss Don't rely on neighboring teeth for support, unlike a bridge Built to last for decades with proper care FAQS Our EXCELLENCE Smile Gallery Am I a candidate for dental implants? Most healthy adults with adequate jawbone are good candidates. If bone density is a concern, procedures like bone grafting or a sinus lift can often help you qualify. How long does the implant process take? The full process, from placement to final restoration, typically takes a few months to allow for proper healing, though some patients qualify for same-day options. Is getting an implant painful? The procedure is performed under anesthesia, so you won't feel pain during it. Most patients report the recovery is more comfortable than they expected, managed with medication as needed. How long do dental implants last? With proper care, dental implants can last decades, and many patients enjoy them for the rest of their life.
