  • Porcelain Veneers | East Madison Dental

How does it work? Your dentist prepares a thin layer of the tooth's surface (or, with no-prep options, little to none), takes a digital impression, and designs veneers matched to your desired shape and shade. Once crafted, the veneers are permanently bonded to your teeth for a seamless, lasting result. What are the benefits ? Corrects chips, gaps, stains, and misshapen teeth in one treatment Long-lasting and highly stain-resistant Natural-looking, light-reflecting like real enamel No-prep options available for a more conservative approach FAQS How long do porcelain veneers last? With proper care, porcelain veneers typically last 10 to 15 years or longer. Good oral hygiene and avoiding habits like nail-biting or chewing ice will help them last. Do veneers require special care? Veneers don't need much beyond your normal brushing and flossing routine. We do recommend avoiding excessive force, like using your teeth to open packages, to protect them long term. Are veneers reversible? Traditional porcelain veneers require removing a small amount of enamel, which makes the process not reversible. If reversibility matters to you, ask us about our no-prep veneer options. How many veneers do I need? It depends on your goals. Some patients choose just a few to correct specific teeth, while others opt for a full set across their smile line for a more dramatic transformation. We also offer no-prep and ultra-thin options like Lumineers for patients who want a more conservative, reversible approach. • Sedation | East Madison Dental

Sedation DENTISTRY Ready to Experience the EMD Difference? Book Now What is Sedation Dentistry? Sedation dentistry allows your doctor to provide a variety of dental treatments safely and comfortably for patients who experience anxiety when visiting the dentist. How does it work? Inhalation : Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is the most frequently used method for easing mild to moderate anxiety. Recovery is quick so you can resume your normal activities immediately. Oral : An extremely common technique for dental sedation is oral sedation. It is easy and does not require the use of needles. You will be given a prescription pill which, taken about an hour before your appointment, will have you fully relaxed by the time you arrive at our office. IV : After gently placing an IV, the sedative medication is given through the IV. Your vital signs will be closely monitored throughout the procedure. It is important for someone to accompany you for your appointment. You also must not eat or drink 6 hours prior to the appointment. What are the benefits ? There are several benefits to sedation dentistry, including: No memory of undergoing the procedure No sense of time while under sedation No sense of smell or sound No fear or anxiety during treatment Patients who have undergone a procedure using sedation dentistry will tell you it is a simple, relaxing way to experience dentistry. FAQS Will I feel anything during my treatment? In most cases, patients do not feel anything. There is very little discomfort, and many patients wake up feeling relaxed and comfortable with almost no memory of the treatment. Is sedation dentistry the same as being unconscious? No. You will still be conscious and responsive but you will be in a deep state of relaxation. Is sedation dentistry safe? Sedation dentistry is a safe and effective way for many patients to receive dental treatment. Before starting your treatment with IV sedation, your doctor will help you decide if IV sedation is right for your treatment. How long will it take the sedation to wear off? The time it takes for the sedatives to wear off depends on the dose you've received, how long your treatment is, and how quickly your own body can recover. Because sedation causes drowsiness, it is recommended that you have a family member or friend drive you to and from your appointment. After your treatment, you should not drive, drink alcohol, or operate machinery. • Root Canals | East Madison Dental

Ready to Experience the EMD Difference? Book Now What is a root canal? A root canal is a procedure that removes infected or inflamed tissue from inside a tooth, saving the natural tooth that might otherwise need to be extracted. How does it work? Your dentist numbs the area, then removes the infected pulp from inside the tooth, cleans and disinfects the canal, and seals it to prevent further infection. A crown is often placed afterward to restore strength. What are the benefits ? Saves your natural tooth instead of requiring extraction Relieves pain caused by infection or inflammation Prevents infection from spreading to surrounding teeth or bone Modern techniques make the procedure far more comfortable than reputation suggests FAQS Are root canals painful? Contrary to their reputation, root canals are performed under anesthesia and are typically no more uncomfortable than getting a filling. In fact, the procedure relieves the pain caused by the underlying infection. How do I know if I need a root canal? Signs include persistent tooth pain, sensitivity to hot or cold that lingers, swelling, or a darkening tooth. Your dentist will confirm with an exam and X-rays. What happens after a root canal? The treated tooth is often more fragile, so a crown is typically recommended afterward to protect and strengthen it for long-term use. What happens if I don't get a root canal when I need one? Untreated infection can spread, leading to worsening pain, abscess, or eventually tooth loss. Addressing it promptly helps you avoid more extensive treatment down the road. Book Now What is pocket depth reduction? Pocket depth reduction is a procedure that treats the deep pockets that form between teeth and gums due to advanced gum disease, helping gums reattach more closely to teeth. How does it work? Your dentist folds back the gum tissue to thoroughly clean out bacteria and tartar from deep pockets, then may smooth irregular bone surfaces before securing the gum tissue back in place for tighter reattachment. What are the benefits ? Reduces harmful bacteria hiding deep below the gumline Helps gums reattach more closely to teeth Makes future cleaning at home and in-office more effective Slows or stops the progression of periodontal disease FAQS How do I know if I need pocket depth reduction? Your dentist measures the pockets around each tooth during a periodontal exam. Pockets deeper than what a standard cleaning can reach often signal the need for this procedure. Is the procedure painful? The area is fully numbed, so the procedure itself is comfortable. Some soreness during recovery is normal and typically improves within about a week. How long does recovery take? Most patients heal within one to two weeks, with gums continuing to tighten and improve over the following weeks and months. Will I still need regular cleanings after this procedure? Yes, and typically more frequent ones. Patients who've had pocket depth reduction usually move to a periodontal maintenance schedule, often every three to four months, to keep gums healthy long-term. Restores health and function to damaged baby or permanent teeth Uses gentle techniques suited for young patients Prevents further decay or infection from spreading Helps protect the space needed for permanent teeth to come in properly FAQS Why treat cavities in baby teeth if they'll fall out anyway? Baby teeth play an important role in speech, chewing, and holding space for permanent teeth. Untreated decay can also lead to pain or infection, so treatment is important even for baby teeth. Will my child need numbing for a filling? Yes, we numb the area to keep your child comfortable, just as we would for an adult. We also offer sedation options for children who need extra support. How can I tell if my child has a cavity? Signs include visible dark spots, sensitivity to hot or cold, or complaints of tooth pain. Regular checkups help catch cavities early, often before symptoms appear. What happens if a baby tooth's decay isn't treated? Untreated decay can lead to pain, infection, and even affect the development of the permanent tooth underneath, which is why early treatment is so important. • All on X | East Madison Dental

All on X Ready to Experience the EMD Difference? Book Now What is All on X? All on X (also known as All-on-4®) is a full-arch tooth replacement solution that uses a small number of strategically placed implants, often four, to support an entire arch of fixed, natural-looking replacement teeth. How does it work? Your dentist places implants into the jawbone at precise angles to maximize stability, often using existing bone without the need for grafting. A full arch of custom teeth is then attached, sometimes on the very same day. What are the benefits ? Replaces a full arch of missing or failing teeth Fixed in place, unlike removable dentures Preserves jawbone health and facial structure Many patients leave with a functional smile the same day FAQS How is All on X different from traditional dentures? Unlike removable dentures that rest on the gums, All on X is permanently anchored to implants, so it doesn't slip, requires no adhesives, and feels and functions much more like natural teeth. Am I a candidate for All on X? Many patients qualify even with significant bone loss, since the implants are placed at angles that work with your existing bone. A consultation and 3D imaging will confirm if it's right for you. How long does the process take? In many cases, patients leave with a functional temporary set of teeth the same day as surgery, with a final, refined restoration placed a few months later once healing is complete. Is the procedure painful? The surgery is performed under anesthesia, so you won't feel pain during the procedure. Some swelling and discomfort afterward is normal and managed with medication and aftercare guidance.
