- Tooth Colored Fillings | East Madison Dental
FAQS Are tooth-colored fillings as strong as metal fillings? Yes, modern composite materials are durable and well-suited for most cavities, including those on chewing surfaces. Your dentist will advise if a different material is better suited for very large restorations. Will people be able to tell I have a filling? No. Tooth-colored fillings are shade-matched to your natural teeth, so they blend in seamlessly and are virtually undetectable. How long do composite fillings last? With good oral hygiene, composite fillings typically last 7 to 10 years or longer, and we'll monitor them at your regular checkups. Does getting a filling hurt? The area is numbed beforehand, so the procedure itself is comfortable. Some mild sensitivity to temperature is normal for a few days afterward. Tooth-colored fillings, also called composite fillings, repair cavities using a durable resin material matched to your natural tooth shade, so the repair blends in seamlessly. How does it work? - Sealants | East Madison Dental
FAQS Are sealants only for children? While sealants are most commonly recommended for kids right after their permanent molars come in, adults with deep grooves and no history of decay in those teeth can benefit too. How long do sealants last? With good oral hygiene, sealants typically last several years, though we'll check them at your regular visits and reapply if needed. Does getting a sealant hurt? Not at all. There's no drilling or numbing involved, just a quick application that hardens under a special light. Do sealants replace the need for brushing and flossing? No. Sealants add an extra layer of protection, but daily brushing and flossing are still essential for keeping the rest of your teeth healthy. Tongue, lip, and cheek ties occur when a band of tissue restricts the movement of the tongue, lip, or cheek, which can affect feeding, speech, and oral development in babies, children, and even adults. How does it work? Your dentist evaluates the range of motion and, if needed, performs a quick laser frenectomy, using a precise dental laser to release the restrictive tissue and restore normal movement and function. What are the benefits ? Can improve feeding for infants struggling to latch or nurse Supports clearer speech development in children Minimally invasive, with less bleeding than traditional methods Quick procedure with minimal discomfort FAQS How do I know if my baby has a tongue tie? Signs include difficulty latching, feeding fatigue, or a clicking sound while nursing. A lactation consultant or your dentist can evaluate and confirm if a tie is present. Is the release procedure painful? The procedure is very quick, and appropriate numbing is used for comfort. Infants often nurse comfortably again almost immediately afterward. Can adults have tongue or lip ties treated? Yes, older children and adults can also benefit, particularly if a tie is affecting speech, oral hygiene, or comfort with certain foods. What does recovery look like? Recovery is typically very quick, often within a day or two, with simple aftercare stretches sometimes recommended to support proper healing.
