  • 3D Oral Imaging | East Madison Dental

How does it work? Using cone beam technology, the scanner rotates around your head to capture hundreds of images, which are compiled into a 3D model your dentist can rotate and examine from every angle to plan treatment precisely. What are the benefits ? Reveals issues traditional X-rays can miss Improves accuracy for implants, extractions, and root canals Fast, comfortable scan with minimal radiation Lets you see exactly what your dentist sees FAQS Is 3D imaging safe? Yes. Our 3D imaging technology uses a low radiation dose, comparable to or even lower than a full set of traditional dental X-rays, and is considered very safe for routine use. Why would I need a 3D scan instead of a regular X-ray? A 3D scan gives your dentist a complete picture of your jaw, nerves, and tooth roots, which is especially valuable for planning implants, complex extractions, or evaluating unexplained pain. How long does the scan take? The scan itself takes less than a minute. You'll simply stand or sit still while the scanner rotates around your head. Will I need 3D imaging at every visit? No. 3D imaging is typically used for specific treatment planning, like implants or oral surgery, rather than as part of routine checkups. • Deep Cleaning | East Madison Dental

Ready to Experience the EMD Difference? Book Now What is A Deep Cleaning? A deep cleaning, also called scaling and root planing, is a more thorough cleaning that removes plaque and tartar from below the gumline, where a routine cleaning can't reach. How does it work? Your dentist or hygienist uses specialized instruments to scale away hardened tartar from the tooth surface and root, then smooths the root to help your gums reattach and heal. The area is typically numbed first for comfort, and it may be done over one or two visits. What are the benefits ? Treats and helps reverse early gum disease Removes bacteria hiding beneath the gumline Helps gums reattach more tightly to teeth Prevents bone and tooth loss down the road FAQS How do I know if I need a deep cleaning? Signs like bleeding or swollen gums, bad breath, or gum recession can point to a need for deep cleaning. Your dentist will measure the pockets around your teeth during an exam to determine if scaling and root planing is right for you. Is a deep cleaning painful? We numb the area before we begin, so most patients feel little to no discomfort during the procedure. Some mild soreness or sensitivity afterward is normal and usually resolves within a few days. How long does recovery take? Most patients are back to normal activities the same day. Gums may feel tender for a few days, and we'll give you simple aftercare instructions to support healing. Will insurance cover a deep cleaning? Many dental plans cover scaling and root planing, especially when gum disease is diagnosed. Our team will help verify your benefits and walk you through any out-of-pocket costs beforehand. • Crowns | East Madison Dental

What is a dental crown? A dental crown is a custom-made cap that covers a damaged, weakened, or heavily decayed tooth, restoring its strength, shape, and function. How does it work? Your dentist reshapes the tooth to make room for the crown, takes a digital scan, and designs a crown that fits precisely over it. Thanks to same-day CEREC® technology, many crowns can be milled and placed in a single visit. What are the benefits ? Restores strength and function to a damaged tooth Protects a weakened tooth from further breakage Blends naturally with your surrounding teeth Same-day options available with no temporary crown needed FAQS How long do crowns last? With good care, crowns typically last 10 to 15 years, and many last much longer. Avoiding excessive grinding or using your teeth as tools helps extend their lifespan. Do I need a crown, or would a filling work? Crowns are generally recommended when a tooth has extensive decay, a large existing filling, or a crack, since fillings alone can't provide the same strength and support in these cases. Will my crown look natural? Yes. Crowns are custom-shaded and shaped to blend seamlessly with your surrounding teeth, whether made from all-ceramic, porcelain, or other tooth-colored materials. Can I get my crown in one visit? In many cases, yes. Using our CEREC® same-day technology, we can design and mill your crown in-office, eliminating the need for a temporary crown and a second visit. • Porcelain Veneers | East Madison Dental

How does it work? Your dentist prepares a thin layer of the tooth's surface (or, with no-prep options, little to none), takes a digital impression, and designs veneers matched to your desired shape and shade. Once crafted, the veneers are permanently bonded to your teeth for a seamless, lasting result. What are the benefits ? Corrects chips, gaps, stains, and misshapen teeth in one treatment Long-lasting and highly stain-resistant Natural-looking, light-reflecting like real enamel No-prep options available for a more conservative approach FAQS How long do porcelain veneers last? With proper care, porcelain veneers typically last 10 to 15 years or longer. Good oral hygiene and avoiding habits like nail-biting or chewing ice will help them last. Do veneers require special care? Veneers don't need much beyond your normal brushing and flossing routine. We do recommend avoiding excessive force, like using your teeth to open packages, to protect them long term. Are veneers reversible? Traditional porcelain veneers require removing a small amount of enamel, which makes the process not reversible. If reversibility matters to you, ask us about our no-prep veneer options. How many veneers do I need? It depends on your goals. Some patients choose just a few to correct specific teeth, while others opt for a full set across their smile line for a more dramatic transformation. Book Now What is Invisalign? Invisalign is a clear aligner system that gradually straightens your teeth using a series of custom, virtually invisible trays, without the brackets and wires of traditional braces. We also offer SureSmile as an alternative clear aligner system, depending on your needs. How does it work? Using a digital scan of your teeth, your dentist maps out your entire treatment plan and designs a series of custom aligners. You wear each set for about one to two weeks, gradually shifting your teeth into their final position. What are the benefits ? Virtually invisible, so most people won't notice you're wearing them Removable for eating, brushing, and flossing Fewer office visits than traditional braces in many cases See a preview of your final smile before you even begin How long does Invisalign treatment take? Treatment time varies by case, typically ranging from several months to around a year and a half, depending on how much correction is needed. Do I have to wear my aligners all the time? For best results, aligners should be worn 20 to 22 hours a day, removing them only to eat, drink anything other than water, and clean your teeth. Is Invisalign as effective as traditional braces? For most cases of mild to moderate misalignment, Invisalign is highly effective. Your dentist will let you know during your consultation if your specific case is well-suited for aligners. Will Invisalign be uncomfortable? You may feel mild pressure for a couple of days after switching to a new set of aligners, which is a normal sign that your teeth are moving. It's generally far more comfortable than traditional braces. Book Now What is sleep and airway treatment? Sleep and airway treatment addresses breathing issues during sleep, including snoring and sleep apnea, often through custom oral appliances that keep your airway open. How does it work? After an evaluation, and often in coordination with a sleep physician, your dentist may design a custom oral appliance that gently repositions your jaw during sleep to keep your airway open and reduce airway obstruction. FAQS What are the benefits ? Reduces snoring and symptoms of sleep apnea Comfortable, non-invasive alternative to CPAP for many patients Improves sleep quality and daytime energy Custom-fit for your mouth and easy to travel with How do I know if I have sleep apnea? Common signs include loud snoring, gasping or choking during sleep, daytime fatigue, and morning headaches. If you notice these, we can help evaluate your symptoms and coordinate care with a sleep specialist. Is an oral appliance as effective as a CPAP machine? For mild to moderate sleep apnea, oral appliances can be highly effective and are often preferred for their comfort and portability. For more severe cases, your physician may recommend combining approaches. Will my appliance feel strange to wear? There's an adjustment period, but most patients acclimate within a couple of weeks. We custom fit your appliance for comfort and check in to make any needed adjustments. Do I need a sleep study first? Yes, a formal sleep study helps diagnose and determine the severity of sleep apnea, which guides the right treatment approach. We're happy to help coordinate this with a sleep physician. • Bone Grafting | East Madison Dental

What is bone grafting? Bone grafting, sometimes called surgical regeneration, rebuilds areas of the jaw that have lost density or volume, creating a strong foundation for future treatments like dental implants. How does it work? Your dentist places grafting material into the area of bone loss, which encourages your body to regenerate new, healthy bone over the following months, strengthening the site before further treatment. What are the benefits ? Builds a strong foundation for dental implants Restores jawbone structure and facial support Prevents further bone loss Improves the long-term success of future treatments FAQS Why would I need a bone graft? Bone loss often occurs after tooth loss, gum disease, or injury. If you're considering an implant but don't have enough bone to support it, a graft can rebuild the area first. Is bone grafting painful? The procedure is performed under anesthesia, so you won't feel pain during it. Some swelling and mild discomfort afterward is normal and manageable with medication. How long does it take to heal from a bone graft? Healing typically takes a few months before the site is ready for further treatment like an implant, though this varies depending on the size of the graft. What material is used for bone grafting? Several types of grafting material are available, including your own bone, donor bone, or synthetic options. Your dentist will recommend the best choice based on your specific situation.
