Book Now What is pocket depth reduction? Pocket depth reduction is a procedure that treats the deep pockets that form between teeth and gums due to advanced gum disease, helping gums reattach more closely to teeth. How does it work? Your dentist folds back the gum tissue to thoroughly clean out bacteria and tartar from deep pockets, then may smooth irregular bone surfaces before securing the gum tissue back in place for tighter reattachment. What are the benefits ? Reduces harmful bacteria hiding deep below the gumline Helps gums reattach more closely to teeth Makes future cleaning at home and in-office more effective Slows or stops the progression of periodontal disease FAQS How do I know if I need pocket depth reduction? Your dentist measures the pockets around each tooth during a periodontal exam. Pockets deeper than what a standard cleaning can reach often signal the need for this procedure. Is the procedure painful? The area is fully numbed, so the procedure itself is comfortable. Some soreness during recovery is normal and typically improves within about a week. How long does recovery take? Most patients heal within one to two weeks, with gums continuing to tighten and improve over the following weeks and months. Will I still need regular cleanings after this procedure? Yes, and typically more frequent ones. Patients who've had pocket depth reduction usually move to a periodontal maintenance schedule, often every three to four months, to keep gums healthy long-term. - Whitening | East Madison Dental
How much whiter will my teeth get? Results vary by individual, but most patients see several shades of improvement. Your dentist will discuss realistic expectations based on your current tooth color and the cause of any staining. Will whitening make my teeth sensitive? Some temporary sensitivity is common, especially with in-office whitening, but it typically resolves within a day or two. We can recommend desensitizing products if needed. How long do whitening results last? Results typically last several months to a couple of years, depending on your diet and habits. Avoiding staining foods and drinks, and touching up periodically, helps maintain your results. Is in-office or at-home whitening better? In-office whitening delivers faster, more dramatic results in a single visit, while at-home trays offer a gradual, flexible option you can use on your own schedule. Is crown lengthening only cosmetic? Not always. It's often used cosmetically to reduce a gummy smile, but it's also frequently necessary to expose enough healthy tooth structure before placing a crown or filling. Is the procedure painful? Most patients heal within one to two weeks, though the gums may continue to settle into their final shape over the following weeks. Can crown lengthening be done on just one tooth? Aesthetic crown lengthening reshapes gum and, when needed, bone tissue to expose more of the natural tooth, correcting a gummy smile or preparing a tooth for a restoration. How does it work? Your dentist carefully removes excess gum tissue, and occasionally a small amount of bone, to reveal more of the tooth's crown, improving both the smile's proportion and, when needed, giving a restoration more surface to bond to. What are the benefits ? Corrects a gummy smile for better proportion Prepares teeth for crowns or veneers when needed Improves the long-term success of restorative work Creates a more balanced, confident smile FAQS Recent POSTS На этом языке пока нет опубликованных постов Когда посты будут опубликованы, вы увидите их здесь. - Inlays and Onlays | East Madison Dental
What are the benefits ? Preserves more natural tooth structure than a crown Custom-fit for a precise, comfortable bite Durable and long-lasting Available with same-day CEREC® technology FAQS What's the difference between an inlay and an onlay? An inlay fits within the grooves of the tooth's chewing surface, while an onlay extends over one or more of the tooth's cusps, covering a larger area. Your dentist determines which fits your specific damage. How do inlays and onlays differ from crowns? Inlays and onlays preserve more of your natural tooth since they don't require reshaping the entire tooth like a crown does. They're typically used for moderate damage that doesn't need full coverage. Can I get an inlay or onlay in one visit? In many cases, yes, using our same-day CEREC® technology, which designs and mills your restoration in-office without the need for a temporary or a second appointment. How long do inlays and onlays last? With good oral hygiene, they typically last 10 to 15 years or longer, similar to crowns and fillings. Inlays and onlays are custom-made restorations that repair teeth with moderate damage or decay, offering a more conservative alternative to a full crown when a filling isn't enough. How does it work? After removing decay, your dentist takes a digital impression and designs a custom restoration that fits precisely within or over the tooth's grooves, then bonds it securely in place, preserving as much natural tooth as possible. - Sedation | East Madison Dental
Sedation DENTISTRY Ready to Experience the EMD Difference? Book Now What is Sedation Dentistry? Sedation dentistry allows your doctor to provide a variety of dental treatments safely and comfortably for patients who experience anxiety when visiting the dentist. How does it work? Inhalation : Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is the most frequently used method for easing mild to moderate anxiety. Recovery is quick so you can resume your normal activities immediately. Oral : An extremely common technique for dental sedation is oral sedation. It is easy and does not require the use of needles. You will be given a prescription pill which, taken about an hour before your appointment, will have you fully relaxed by the time you arrive at our office. IV : After gently placing an IV, the sedative medication is given through the IV. Your vital signs will be closely monitored throughout the procedure. It is important for someone to accompany you for your appointment. You also must not eat or drink 6 hours prior to the appointment. What are the benefits ? There are several benefits to sedation dentistry, including: No memory of undergoing the procedure No sense of time while under sedation No sense of smell or sound No fear or anxiety during treatment Patients who have undergone a procedure using sedation dentistry will tell you it is a simple, relaxing way to experience dentistry. FAQS Will I feel anything during my treatment? In most cases, patients do not feel anything. There is very little discomfort, and many patients wake up feeling relaxed and comfortable with almost no memory of the treatment. Is sedation dentistry the same as being unconscious? No. You will still be conscious and responsive but you will be in a deep state of relaxation. Is sedation dentistry safe? Sedation dentistry is a safe and effective way for many patients to receive dental treatment. Before starting your treatment with IV sedation, your doctor will help you decide if IV sedation is right for your treatment. How long will it take the sedation to wear off? The time it takes for the sedatives to wear off depends on the dose you've received, how long your treatment is, and how quickly your own body can recover. Because sedation causes drowsiness, it is recommended that you have a family member or friend drive you to and from your appointment. After your treatment, you should not drive, drink alcohol, or operate machinery.
