What is sleep and airway treatment?
Sleep and airway treatment addresses breathing issues during sleep, including snoring and sleep apnea, often through custom oral appliances that keep your airway open.
How does it work?
After an evaluation, and often in coordination with a sleep physician, your dentist may design a custom oral appliance that gently repositions your jaw during sleep to keep your airway open and reduce airway obstruction.

How do I know if I have sleep apnea?
Common signs include loud snoring, gasping or choking during sleep, daytime fatigue, and morning headaches. If you notice these, we can help evaluate your symptoms and coordinate care with a sleep specialist.
Is an oral appliance as effective as a CPAP machine?
For mild to moderate sleep apnea, oral appliances can be highly effective and are often preferred for their comfort and portability. For more severe cases, your physician may recommend combining approaches.
Will my appliance feel strange to wear?
There's an adjustment period, but most patients acclimate within a couple of weeks. We custom fit your appliance for comfort and check in to make any needed adjustments.
Do I need a sleep study first?
Yes, a formal sleep study helps diagnose and determine the severity of sleep apnea, which guides the right treatment approach. We're happy to help coordinate this with a sleep physician.
